All About LiZa
Liza’s experience in makeup artistry, eyebrow design, permanent makeup and therapeutic skin care
began in 1987. You can feel confident and secure to have chosen a leading
specialist in the field of Permanent Cosmetics and Para-Medical Skincare to perform your treatments.
LiZa's facility;Wake Up with Makeup is located in the Lake Otis Medical Plaza in Anchorage, AK.
The Past:
At age 28, self employed with her own Civil Engineering Materials Laboratory, LiZa Sims first heard of
permanent makeup. With limited time in her busy schedule, she was excited to think she could have her
makeup permanently applied.
A doctor performed the procedure and the results were shocking. Her eyelids were squeezed in a metal clamp;
she was put under anesthesia and bled profusely. After the procedure, her eyes bruised badly and were very painful.
Even with the discomfort, she was eager to see the result and believed it would be worth the pain. As the swelling and
discoloration subsided, she was dismayed to see the quality of the work was very poor. The eyeliner turned
blue gray within months,
the lower line was very severe and uneven, causing her eyes to look droopy.
She remembers thinking at that time that she could do a
better job in applying the permanent cosmetics than the doctor was able to do!
Her first training in the application of permanent cosmetics was in 1987.
The Present
The permanent cosmetic industry has grown much larger since that time and Liza has been and remains very
involved and active in the industry since. As an ‘old hand’ she is able to help the industry and its
newcomers with the knowledge and experience she has gleaned over the years.
As a licensed para-medical aesthetician, LiZa is passionate about helping her clients make educated decisions
regarding their aesthetic needs. This is one reason her clinic is located in a Medical Plaza.
Some services that LiZa offers, including permanent cosmetics are also offered in salons and spas.
It is her concern that consumers are sometimes unaware of poor health and safety practices that can
result in problems when these treatments are performed in salon settings. Because of her high regard for
safety and disinfection measures (her nickname among colleagues is “Steri-LiZa”) and her experience in
observing the practices of many, she knows that breaches of safety may be undetectable to the client.
For example, in many salons and spas offering personal services, it is common for consumers to receive
treatments on tables or chairs that were not properly disinfected after the previous client sat in them.
Eyeglasses worn by technicians and adjusted with contaminated gloves during a procedure may be re-worn
without proper disinfection.
If the technician must leave the work station during a procedure, she or he must remove gloves,
magnifiers, isolation gown and mask,
then properly wash hands.
If a client is lying with eyes closed, they may not see safety infractions.
Street clothing worn without proper cross contamination isolation gowns may have contaminated fluids
from a previous client. Pigment bottle tips may have touched contaminated pigment holder cups during
procedures on previous clients. Color bottles, anesthetic products should never go back and forth from
an active (contaminated) work station.
Even though it may be unintentional, these unhealthy practices and other mistakes can spread
bacteria and viruses from one client to another.
When skin is broken during a permanent makeup procedure and when working close to the face
a setting such as LiZa’s clinic offers an extra measure of safety.
LiZa attends an 8 hour OSHA class followed by exam out of state every 6 months. Her home state (Alaska)
requires a 45 minute
Red Cross class every two years but LiZa goes above and beyond by traveling twice yearly to attend an
intensive OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Safety class formatted expressly for the body modification industries
by Mr. David Vidra of Health Educators Inc. web: http://www.hlthedu.com/
You can rest assured that your safety is of the highest importance to Liza.
With a natural instinct for balance and symmetry LiZa is often called upon to consult with plastic surgeons on the intricate detail of the human facial form.
